PostHeaderIcon Appalled at the state of `once great nation`

Sir,

We read nearly everyday that someone is cheating on benefits and getting away by paying back - in one case, £1 back. This is after taking about £4,000 and just because she had no money. Has she ever heard of working for a living to pay it back?

Now, we hear that foreign police are going to be over in this country spying around.

What a state this once great country is in, just through leaders past and present just thinking about their own pockets, and not running the country for everyone.

The gap between rich and poor is forever widening.

PostHeaderIcon Betrayal of Industry

Sir,

The Blair/Brown regime steered Parliament into a  management committee for Brussels.

Observers in Brussels noted the Conservatives talking Eurosceptic at home, but...behaving differently in their parliamentary work.

Can they be trusted to safeguard British interests as the EU yses its economic crisis to snare us into a single economic government?

Now Prime Minister, one of Mr. Cameron`s public statements was that  no more power will be handed over to Brussels.

With precious few left, no doubt this was to woo back Tory dissenters.

So, why did the vast majority of Conservative MEPs vote last week with their Lib-Dem Allies to shift the centre of European Banking Regulation from London, to Frankfurt?

Of the 25 Conservative MEPs, only two voted against! The rest supporting the removal of regulatory power over British Banks to Germany!

Naturally, the Lib-Dem Allies voted in favour, always glad for any opportunity to jump into bed with th EU.

This vote is a clear betrayal of Britian`s largest and most profitable industry, and further proof that the coalition cannot be trusted to defend British interests.

This vote in Strasburg creates a new European Bankng Authority with supervisory powers over British Banks.

It is a significant transfer of  sovereign power to Brussels.

It even enables Brussels to sanction [or refuse] our own budgets/forecasts before Westminister MPs are allowed to look at them!

How about that for a coalition kick-off?

PostHeaderIcon Brussels no good for health

Sir,

Many of us have long had the freedom to choose between different natural health products. However, since 2005, we`ve fet the bite of EU draconian regulatory inroads being made into Vitamin and mineral food supplements.

Now, from April 2011, the hand  of Brussels will be felt as it sweeps many herbal supplements, previously regarded as food supplements, off our health food store shelves, while making it very hard to have many such products licensed under the EU`s traditional herbal medicines registration scheme.

Once again we see the detrimental effects of faceless bureaucrats from the European Union dictate our every choice, even our health.

PostHeaderIcon Hopes raised by coalition fade again

Sir,

Everyone ought now to be aware that the years of New Labour rule were dominated by lies, deceit, spin & gross mismanagement.

Never before has trut in politicians dropped to such a low ebb, and, with good reason. It was surprising that as many bothered to vote as did.

Some hope was raised by the formation of the coalition Government, but such hope is rapidly disappearing.

It would seem taht Cameron and his troops are continuing policies og hitting the hardest working people in our society, while allowing the greedy, the workshy and those who threaten the security of our nation to live priviliged lifestlyes.

When will the most falsely named Human Rights be abandoned. or, do we have to get permission from the E U first?

He and Nick Clegg have been asking the nation how best to make savings, which is just a sop, while doing  nothing about cutting the number of politicains, nor stopping the iniquitous payments being made to the E U - some estimates say that administration costs thrown in, these are as much as £100million per day! - to keep the most corrupt and greedy ogre of all time in unimaginable luxury.

Why is it that none of the 3 major parties are even willing to discuss the issue?

It would appear our politicians have something to hide and are not prepared to come clean on this vital issue that is sucking the lifeblood of our nation.

Or, is it being preserved as a paradise for failed politicians and their families and pets?

John Dennis, Torrington.
