PostHeaderIcon Members' letter to local press

Written to the Somerset County Gazette by Taunton Deane member Ann Morris, this letter was published in their edition of 9th August 2010.

On behalf of Bishops Hull WI, I contacted two of our South Western MEPs, Trevor Colman and Graham Watson, concerning food labelling.

At the beginning of July the European Parliament discussed proposals that give consumers more power to make effective and informed decisions about the food they eat through improved labelling.

This will ensure more transparency in our food supply and put an end to the ridiculous situation whereby foodstuffs packaged in the UK can be labelled ‘British’ even if they come from another country.

The legislative proposals will now go before the European Council for scrutiny, and if amended they will return to the European Parliament for a second reading.

Both MEPs stated that they support this view and will continue to fight for a practical set of rules that properly support consumer information.

Trevor Colman MEP (UKIP) also commented:

“The European Union intends that nation states, which include Britain, shall disappear and that a ‘Federal State of Europe’, known as ‘The Union’ shall come into being.  The intention is, to quote the EU, ‘no nations and no borders’!”

This means sooner rather than later, the country you and I know as Great Britain will cease to exist and the question of the ‘true country of origin’ will be resolved by merely stating that the food product is from the EU.                                                                              Ann Morris

Welcome to UKIP Taunton Deane Constituency Association

The Taunton Deane Association was formed in 2007 from the former Taunton and Bridgwater Branch.
The Bridgwater section later became Bridgwater and West Slomerset.

Committee Member David Thomas writes:

In response to a letter I wrote to the local press – which was published! -  some weeks ago, I have been approached by several people purporting to be Conservative but Eurosceptic.

Let it be clearly understood by all that the days of Eurosceptic Conservatives dried up years ago.  They are now obedient, submissive, Europhile Cameronians, or supporters of UKIP.

In UKIP we are united in Country and Sovereignty first and above all.    The three headed monster (Lib/Lab/Con) has betrayed us.

Not difficult to work out, is it?
